Faith must be put to use...

The question the doubter does not ask is whether faith was really useless or simply not used. What would you think of a boy who gave up learning to ride a bicycle, complaining that he hurt himself because his bicycle stopped moving so he had no choice but to fall off? If he wanted to sit comfortably while remaining stationary, he should not have chosen a bicycle but a chair. Similarly faith must be put to use, or it will become useless.

There is a light that shines on me...let it be.

“And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, let it be...”

Let Faith Be The Bridge

Let faith be the bridge you build
to overcome evil and welcome good.

Happy Thanksgiving. May God give you...

May God give you...
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.

I will greet this day with love in my heart

Henceforth I will look upon all things with love
and I will be born again.

I will love the sun for it warms my bones;
yet I will love the rain for it cleanses my spirit.

I will love the light for it shows me the way;
yet I will love the darkness for it shows me the stars.

I will welcome happiness because it enlarges my heart;
yet I will endure sadness because it opens my soul.

I will acknowledge rewards because they are my due;
yet I will welcome obstacles because they are my challenge.

I will greet this day with love in my heart.

True Happiness

True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.
~ Seneca

Alone

Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don't believe I'm wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires
With money they can't use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They've got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely
I'll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

~ Maya Angelou

Our job. Our Children.

Our job is not to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. Our job is to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.

Love

Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.

Did you win the day, or lose it?

Is anybody happier because you passed his way?
Does anyone remember that you spoke to him today?
The day is almost over, and its toiling time is through;

Is there anyone to utter now a kindly word of you?

Can you say tonight, in parting with the day that's slipping fast,

that you helped a single brother of the many that passed?
Is a single heart rejoicing over what you did or said;
Does the man whose hopes were fading, now with courage look ahead?

Did you win the day, or lose it?
Was it well or sorely spent?
Did you leave a trail of kindness, or a scar of discontent?
As you close your eyes in slumber, do you think that God will say,

"You have earned one more tomorrow by the work you did today".

Be in the Present

To be free of time is to be free of the psychological need of the past for your identity and future for your fulfillment. It represents the most profound transformation of consciousness that you can imagine.

Beautiful is the moment...

Beautiful is the moment in which we understand that we are no more than an instrument of God; we live only as long as God wants us to live; we can only do as much as God makes us able to do; we are only as intelligent as God would have us be.
~ Oscar A. Romero

Leadership

Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.

What Matters

I have no right, by anything I do or say, to demean a human being in his own eyes. What matters is not what I think of him; it is what he thinks of himself. To undermine a man's self-respect is a sin.
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Fear's a powerful thing

I got God on my side
And I'm just trying to survive
What if what you do to survive
Kills the things you love
Fear's a powerful thing, baby
It can turn your heart black you can trust
It'll take your God filled soul
And fill it with devils and dust
                     ~ Bruce Springsteen

There's Still Time

Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run,
there's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.

Do this...and your life will never be the same.

Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.

A Fresh New Year

Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!

~ William Arthur Ward

Let us all be thankful...

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful."
